DIV 2 FOOTBALL WIN OVER MITCHELSTOWN

We played Mitchelstown who had made a positive start to the div 2 football league with two wins and a draw from their first three games but thankfully we were able to get on top from the start and lead the game all through to take the league points on offer.

SHANBALLYMORE INTO ALL-IRELAND FINAL

13087444_1000449250008841_2350025411231047831_n

It’s a red letter day for Shanballymore as the Shanballymore hurlers are into an All Ireland Final!

Shortly after our All-Ireland Semi Final our opponents were deemed ineligible to go further on a number of fronts. Unfortunately at the highest level of GAA Shanballymore were also being blocked from proceeding. However, after nearly 8 weeks of locking horns between Shanballymore and the highest decision making bodies in Croke Park finally a competent sporting decision making panel represented by 8 to 10 counties in the country last night at a meeting in the Hogan Stand Croke Park overturned earlier incorrect rulings made by the CCCC and now Shanballymore go forward to represent Avondhu Cork and Munster in the All Ireland Final against Tynagh Abbey Duniry of Galway.

We expect the will be played in the coming weeks. Special mention to all in the attached picture and Jonathan Linehan who were instrumental in this historic, momentous turnover. Now, thankfully and rightly all focus returns to the playing field and in preparing for an All Ireland Final for Shanballymore.

DIVISION 3 HURLING LEAGUE

Shanballymore 0-14 Churchtown 2-8.

Thursday night we made the trip to Churchtown to play the hosts in round 2 of the div 3 hurling league and after a tough physical battle the teams ended all square which was probably a fair result as very little separated both teams all through. Churchtown started the stronger and led 0-2 to 0-0 after five minutes and with fifteen minutes gone they still held a 2 point lead 0-4 to 0-2 with our points coming from Paul Burke and an Eamonn Fitzgerald free.

IMPRESSIVE WIN IN DIV 1 HURLING LEAGUE

Shanballymore 2-18 Ballygiblin 0-13.
We went in to the Ballygiblin game knowing that we had to up our performance from our last match against Newtown which ended in a loss. Last year Ballygiblin came to Shanballymore and beat us well so we knew that it was going to be a difficult task to get anything from this game. From the start they drove at our defence and had three points on board before we had hit the 5min mark.

BARRY ROLLS BACK THE YEARS IN COUNTY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Last Saturday in Buttevant we played our refixed county junior b football championship first round match against fellow north Cork side Milford and came away with a very good win after dominating from start to finish. We played into the wind in the first half and got off to a solid start and after fifteen minutes we led 0-3 to 0-0 with points coming from Kenneth Barry(0-2) and Eoin O’Regan(0-1).

NEWTOWN PROVE TOO STRONG IN LEAGUE

We played Newtownshandrum last Tuesday week in Shanballymore in round 2 of the Cavanaghs of Fermoy hurling league and unfortunately it turned out to be a similar story as with past games between ourselves and Newtown. We were short a few due to injuries and work but still put out a very strong team in the hope of claiming a victory and keeping our good run going but against a team like Newtown if you don’t take your chances you will get punished.

SCOR NA BPAISTI

Last Saturday our national school were in Ovens Ballincollig for the county final of the Scór Na Bpaístí and they were represented by the Bailéad Ghrúpa who had made it to the county final with some excellent displays of music and song. The hall at the Eire Og GAA complex was packed to capacity all day and our lads put on a top class performance when they got their chance on stage.

When the results were read out they were called out in second place just losing out to the winners from Cullen. This was an outstanding achievement by this ballad group of kids and they deserve so much credit for all the hard work they put in. Well done to Niamh McGuckian, Jennifer Dempsey, Sarah Caldwell, Appolilly Szwar, Kevin Barry and also their teacher Mrs Fiona Hannon who led them to the county final.

DIV 3 RESULTS MAKES IT TWO WINS FROM TWO OVER THE WEEKEND

Our second string welcomed Milford to Shanballymore last Sunday morning for the first game in this year’s div 3 hurling league and after a very close game we came out on top and get off to a great start in the league. Over the last few years we have had some tough battles with this Milford team and they usually claim the victory but this time after another tough physical encounter we managed to hold on.

2016 KICKS OFF WITH A WIN

We kicked off our Cavanaghs of Fermoy div 1 hurling league at home to Fermoy on Saturday night and claimed the 2 points on offer with a hard fought win against a big physical Fermoy outfit. We lined out with a very strong squad of players and after our exciting exploits in the Munster and All Ireland championship over the last few months we were ready to hit the ground running. JUVENILE CLUB

Over the last few months our juvenile club have been busy organising the year ahead and over the cold winter nights they held talks with our near neighbours Glanworth on the possibility of joining forces at underage level. Thankfully all talks went very well and both sides agreed to join from u12 up to u18 under the name of St Dominics and in doing so will hopefully build a successful club for years to come.

This merger will no doubt help both adult clubs in years to come as it will give all juvenile players a chance to play at a competitive level. The club’s will stay as Glanworth and Shanballymore for the younger age groups of u6, u8 and u10 but these groups of players will take part in organised street league’s throughout the year and these will be all fun based.

It would be great to see as many adult players from both clubs get involved in some way with the younger lads as it will be a great benefit to the juvenile players to learn the skills of hurling and football from the adult players. Over the last two weeks there have been a number of games in all age groups with our u16 footballers defeated by Dromtarriffe last Thursday in Glanworth.

Last Sunday our u14 footballers had a brillant win over Dromtarriffe away when they came out on the right side of a high scoring match by a point. Then it was the turn of the minor footballers who had an excellent 3 point win over Banteer away also held last Sunday. Training for all age groups will continue weekly and all parents will be notified by text.
