The juvenile club was again a hive of active this past week with more games and training through out this past week. Our under 10’s had two league games while our under 8’s took part in a Blitz held in Charleville on Saturday last.

Under 10’s:

Last Monday night on home soil we played against a very strong Doneraile side in the football league. This game was well contested and very close throughout. Thanks to Billy Butler for referring this game.

Panel: Peter O Keeffe, Micheal Casey-Hanley, Dean Fitzharris, Nathan Murray, Cian Looney, Lorcan & Niall Murray, Jack & Luke Twomey, Daniel McGuickin, Gavin Barrett, Will Ladd Finn.

Our second game of week took place on Monday the 11th when we traveled and played Ballycoulgh in the under 10 hurling league. The first half saw very little scoring opportunities with both defenses on top. Playing into a slight wind for the second half, we knew we would have to up our performance from the first half. We made a couple of positional changes and this lead to some fine hooking and blocking all over the field as well as some brilliant point scoring. We took control from here to the final whistle while consistently keeping the scoreboard ticking over while our defense continued their fine form from the first half by keeping Ballyclough out at every opportunity.

Panel : Lorcan and Niall Murray, Aine Burke, Peter O’Keeffe, Nathan Murray, Daniel McGuickin, Gavin Barrett, Jack and Luke Twomey, Dean Fitzharris and Will Ladd Finn.

Under 8s:

Last Saturday morning in Charleville our under 8 team took part in a Football blitz. We played three games, against Charleville, Granard Gaels and Kanturk. These were all great games to watch with all kids getting some valuable game time. During the course of the three games different players showed some brilliant skills that they have been learning on the training ground. All games were close and exciting, with all kids trying hard to the very end in each game.

Panel: Indya and Kash Szwarc, Will Ladd Finn, Fionn O Sullivan, Caoimhe Looney, Niall and Rory Murray, Jamie Burke, Sean Barry, Luke Burke and Daniel Sheedy.

Shanballymore Juvenile Report 14/09/2017

It was another busy week for the club this past week as we fielded three different teams in various competitions. Our under 10’s had two league games. Our under 8’s and Shanballymore cubs (under 6’s) took part in a Blitz held in Kildorrery on Saturday last.

Under 10’s:

Last Monday night in Ballyclough we played the hosts in the hurling league. Report of this match will be in next weeks addition.

On Monday the 4th of Sep we played our second football league game. We were hoping the team would put in the same effort and performance that they had showed against Glanworth in the first football league game. To the players credit this is what they did. Our opponents on the night were Milford who matched our team with the same effort and commitment. This lead to a very entertaining game for the supports and parents who attended. Right from the off it was obvious that both teams have being training hard and working on their skills, with some brilliant hand passing and kick passing on display.

In goals Lorcan was once again very calm and composed when clearing his lines and finding a black and red jerseys at every opportunity. Nathan, Aine and Peter put in fine performances with some great blocks and clearances. They really stood up to the challenge of a good Milford forward line. Nathan who started in deference for the first time played a brilliant match and was out in front of his man for every ball. In midfield, Cian, Jack and Dean had a battle on their hands against a very good midfield pairing from Milford. However when the questions were asked they stood up to the challenge. Cian worked tirelessly up and down the field all day. Jack got some good scores and Dean was always on hand to pick up the break and always making himself available to his team mates. Up front, Niall, Michael, and Luke made the most of every opportunity by testing the keeper on numerous occasions. With a bit more luck they could have added to their already high scoring tally.  On the night we welcomed back Michael after a nasty injury sustained during the year. It was great to have Michael back on the playing field.

Panel: Peter O Keeffe, Micheal Casey-Hanley, Aine Burke, Dean Fitzharris, Nathan Murry, Cian Looney, Lorcan & Niall Murray, Jack & Luke Twomey.

Under 8s:

Last Saturday morning in Kildorrery our under 8 team took part in a hurling blitz. We played three games, against  Kildorrery first and second team and also Killavullen. These were all great games to watch with all kids getting some valuable game time. During the course of the three games different players showed some brilliant skills that they have been learning on the training ground. All games were close and exciting, with all kids trying hard to the very end in each game.

Panel: Caoimhe Looney, Will Ladd Finn, Niall and Rory Murray. Eoin Sheedy, Sean Barry, Fionn O’ Sullivan, Indya Szwarc, Dawn Ladd Finn, Jamie Burke and Cian Sheedy.

Shanballymore Cubs:

Also on Saturday morning in Kildorrery at the same time as our under 8 team, we fielded an under 6 football team. This was a great occasion and outing for the youngest members of our club. The kids really enjoyed these games and they also got the chance to play with their friends and also got the chance to make some new friends. Thanks to Kildorrery and Killavullen for the games.

Panel: Emily Burke, Cian Sheedy, Sean Barry, Luke Burke, Darragh Sheedy, Indya  & Kash Szwarc, Daniel Sheedy, Sarah McSweeney, Aaron O Neill and Darren Murray.

Under 10’s:

First game up for the under 10’s was on Monday the 21st against close neighbours Glanworth in football. Going by previous meetings between these two teams this had the makings of being a keenly contested game, and that is the way it panned out. Right from the off it was obvious that both teams have being training hard and working on their skills, with some brilliant hand passing and kick passing on display. In goals Lorcan was very calm and composed when clearing his lines and finding a black and red jerseys at every opportunity. Daniel, Aine and Peter put in fine performances with some great blocks and clearances. They really stood up to the challenge of a good Glanworth forward line. In midfield, Cian, Jack and Dean had a battle on their hands against a very good midfield pairing from Glanworth. However when the questions were asked they stood up to the challenge. Cian worked tireless up and down the field all day. Jack put on an exhibition of hand passing and kicking skills and Dean was always on hand to pick up the break and wining his own frees which he calmly converted. Up front, Niall, Nathan, and Luke mad the most of every opportunity by testing the keeper on numerous occasions. With a bit more luck they could have added to their already scoring tally.

The second half was nail biting stuff for team management and supporters alike, with never more then a score between the two teams. Well done to both teams who gave a 100% effort and commitment.

Panel: Peter O Keeffe, Daniel McGuickin, Aine Burke, Dean Fitzharris, Nathan Murray, Cian Looney, Lorcan & Niall Murray, Jack & Luke Twomey.

Our second game of week took place  on Saturday when we played Croke Rovers in the under 10 hurling league. We played really well and matched the efforts that had displayed earlier on in the week against Glanworth in the football. We started the brighter with some great individual and team play that had us in control for most of the first half period. Credit must also go to Croke Rovers who approaching half time really put it up to use and had us under pressure before the referee blew the whistle for the change over. Playing into a slight wind for the second, we knew we would have to up our performance from the first half, this lead to some fine hooking and blocking all over the field as well as some brilliant point scoring. Croke Rovers also played some great hurling which had both teams trading score for score. With the minimum between the sides throughout the second half and the final whistle fast approach both teams tried tirelessly to get the winning score. Well done to both team teams for a fine display of hurling. Thanks to Croke Rovers for making the journey and wish them the best of luck for the year ahead.

This was our second outing of the year. We made the short trip to Castletownroche with a large number of players, 12 in total. Credit to Brian Sheedy (manager) and his backroom team for fielding such numbers at this age level. With both clubs having big numbers it was decided it be best to divide the players into two teams so all players would have more game time and space to help to develop their skills. All players from the two clubs put on some great entertainment for the large group of supports. There was some brilliant individual displays from both teams and some of these players really caught the eye for future stars of their respective clubs. Many thanks to Castletownroche for their hospitality and we hope to return the favour in the near future.

UNDER AGE MONSTER BLITZ

Last Saturday Shanballymore Juvenile club held the Rebel Og Monster Blitz. Last year we held a very successful under 8 blitz with over 200 players competing. This year we were host for even more under 8 teams with the addition of four under 6 teams. All games were played in the best of spirit and played to the highest of standard. Feedback from other clubs was very positive and all clubs felt very welcome. This can go down to being even more successful then the previous year.

On Saturday we fielded an under 6 and 8 team. Later on in the day we also had an under 10 hurling game. This shows the great work and dedication being put in by mangers of these teams as well as club officers for putting the time and effort required into the under age section of the club.

Shanballymore Cubs Under 6.jpg
This was our first outing for our under 6 members Shanballymore Cubs. They had 3 games, playing Newtownshandrum who their credit had two teams and Buttevent. All players from all clubs put on some great entertainment for the large group of supports. We had some new players making their debut for the club these include Touran McGrellis, Luke Burke, Darragh Sheedy and Ciaran Dennehy and the occasion did not faze them. These players played really well and look to be future stars of the club. Other players to play really well and score goals on the day where, Daniel Sheedy, Sean Barry, Cian Sheedy and Jamie Burke.

Under 8’s:
Under 8
In the first game we played Kildorrery, This was a really enjoyable game with Luke, Rory, Eoin and Caoimhe really playing well against a tough Kildorrery team. In the second game we played Mallow. This game was another step up from the previous game, but credit to our players who brought all their skills from the training ground into match situation with Indya, Dawn and Fionn really standing out. In the third and final match we played a strong Kilworth team. Will,Nail and Ronan worked hard with some very good blocks and clearence from both their left and right sides. Panel of players on the day: Eoin Sheedy, Fionn O’Sullivan , Indya Szwarc, Will and Dawn Ladd Finn,  Caoimhe Looney, Ronan McGrellis, Rory and Niall Murray and Luke Twomey.

Under 10’s:
Also on Saturday we fielded our third team of the day when we played close neighbours Doneraile who made the short journey to us to take part in the under 10 hurling league. After our Under 6 and 8s teams put on such good displays the under 10’s knew they would have to try and match this and too their credit that is exactly what they did. We started the brighter with some great individual and team play that had us in control for most of the first half period. Credit must also go to Doneraile who approaching half time really put it up to use and had us under pressure before the referee blew the whistle for the change over. With a slight wind at our backs for the second, we again upped our performance from the first half, this lead to some fine hooking and blocking all over the field as well as some brilliant point scoring.

Jack in goals in the first half, pulled of some fine saves which really kept us in the game. In front of Jack, Cian Looney again played really well and seems to be enjoying his new role in the back line. Along side Cian was Peter who’s long clearances set up attack after attack for our forward line. Aine in the other corner put on a fine display of defending while never giving her man an inch of space. In midfield Lorcan and Nathan Murry, worked their socks off to ensure Doneraile never got easy balls into their forward line. Lorcan who was a pain in the side of many Doneraile player for the entire game. Jack Twomey who swapped with Nathan for the second half carried straight on from where Nathan had been as he got on the score board time and time again. Up front Gavin carried on his fine form from the Kildorrery game by scoring and setting up scoring chances. Beside Gavin, was Daniel which say him play for the first time in the forward line, and the way he played it looks like it wont be his last time. Luke Twomey who was in the corner again but on another fine display like recent matches, providing assistance to all those around him.

Panel of players: Peter O Keeffe, Daniel McGuickin, Aine Burke, Cian Looney, Lorcan Murry, Jack & Luke Twomey, Nathan Murry and Gavin Barrett.

On Friday night our close neighbours Kildorrery made the short journey down to us to take part in the under 10 hurling league. Kildorrery started the brighter with some great individual and team play that had us at 6’s and 7’s for most of the first half period. The short whistle came at just the right time for our players. The management team reassured our players that they are well able to play hurling and have showed how good they can be by reminding them of all the training they have done and the previous matches they have played. With these words of wisdom on board and a few positional changes our players came out in the second half like a new team. The most notable change was Gavin Barrett moving to the forward line where within two minutes of the restart he had his first of four second half goals. Nathan moved into goals and pulled of some brilliant saves and found a Shanballymore player with every puck out. Daniel and Rory provided great cover for Nathan in goals. Outside of them Aine Burke, showed some great passion with some great hooking and blocking, beside her Peter really thundered into the game reading the breaking ball and setting up many counter attacks. In midfield Cian and Lorcan worked tirelessly all game.

Mid way through the second half we again hit a purple patch on the score board with Gavin(2) and Peter scoring goals. Peter goal coming from a well taken sideline by Jack Twomey to find Peter. Two minutes later Peter returned the favour by finding Jack who had his bullet of a shot saved on the line. Credit to Kildorrery who never gave up and had their own purple patch on the score board scoring a goal and two fine points from the mid field pairing. This had Kildorrery ahead by the minimum of margins, with only minutes left on the watch. Good work by Morgan found Luke Twomey who calmly and composed found the bottom corner of the net with a first time pull on the ground. With time almost up and only one play remaining, Kildorrery with the resulting puck out went up the filed to score their own goal to leave them up a point. It was credit to both sets of players to put on such a fine display of skill and hard work. Some of the striking, hooking, blocking and point taking was a credit to watch. With both set of supports left biting their finger nails right up to the final whistle. Thanks for Kildorrery for making the spin down and contributing to a fine game that will know doubt bring on these players skills.

Panel of players: Peter O Keeffe,Daniel McGuickin, Rory Dempsey, Aine Burke, Cian Looney, Lorcan Murray, Morgan McGrellis, Jack & Luke Twomey, Nathan Murray and Gavin Barrett.

JUVENILE MATCH REPORT

With the kids coming to the end of their mid term break and after having a weekend free from matches due to the Easter holidays, our players were keen to get back out on the field of play and see some game time. It was football action this week for our under 10s and 8s both participating in games last weekend.
under-8.jpg
Under 8’s:
On Saturday morning our under 8 Footballers were in Doneraile to compete in the RebelOg MonsterBlitz. In the first game we played Charleville, This was a really enjoyable game with Caoimhe, Sean and Niall showing some great skill and scoring ability. In the second game we played Milford. Indya and Rory  played really well for the full game. In the third and final match we played Killavullen. Jamie, Cian, Will and Luke really showed their array of skills, with some fine passing and scoring. All these games were played to the highest of standard at this age level. The kids put on a great show for all the parents and supports at the game. Panel of players on the day: Will Ladd Finn,Rory and Niall Murray, Sean Barry, Cian Sheedy, Luke Twomey, Caoimhe Looney, Indya Swarc and Jamie Burke.

Under 10’s:
On Friday last our under 10 footballers made the journey to Mitchelstown were we took on a well drilled and highly skilled Mitchelstown team in a good game of football. Right from the off you could tell both sets of players have been working hard at training since the start of the year. Both teams were giving a master class in hand passing and kick passing that would often been seen at older age groups. Mitchelstown started the scoring spree with a goal and a point, but credit to our inside forward line who soon got these scores back. From this point to the break it was nip and tuck with some fine scores and individually battles taking place. The message at half time to the players was simple to keep doing what they have been doing all along. We made a number changes at the break and the new players that came in kept the same level of intensity and skill as the first half. The second half panned out the same as the first half with Mitchelstown getting on the score board first, but yet again our boys and girls showed great determination to claw the lead back. With the minimum between the teams entering the last minute it was or youngest panel member Luke Twomey who kicked the equalizing point. This leveled the scoring on the night.

In goals Jack was very calm and composed when clearing his lines and finding a black and red jerseys at every opportunity. Daniel, Rory and Aine put in fine performances with some great blocks and clearances. Cian Looney playing his first game in defense, played like a player that has always been there. In midfield, Michael, Dean and Nathan had a battle on there hands against a very good midfield pairing from Mitchelstown. However when the questions were asked they stood up to the challenge. Up front, Lorcan, Peter, Luke and Morgan linked up well through out the game. This link play resulted in some fine goals and points being scored.

Again well done to both teams who gave a 100% effort and commitment. Thanks to Mitchelstown for a fine game and well prepared pitch.  Panel of players: Jack and Luke Twomey, Peter O Keeffe, Daniel McGuickin, Rory Dempsey, Aine Burke, Michael Casey Hanely, Dean Fitzharris, Cian Looney, Lorcan Murry, Morgan McGrellis and Nathan Murry.

Unfortunately on the night, Michael Casey Hanley, sustained a nasty injury, Shanballymore GAA club would like to take this opportunity to wish Michael all the best and a speedy recovery.

FLYING START IN FOOTBALL COUNTY

Our Junior B football team got off to a great start in the County Football Championship last Saturday evening against local rivals Grange. Played in sunny conditions in Glanworth, it was perfect conditions for Football. The game began at a high tempo and Grange weren’t long giving us cause for concern, going 0-4 to 0-1 up within 10 minutes. From here on though, Shanballymore eventually got going and kept the game for the most part in our control. Barry Sheedy had opened our scoring with a point from play after 5 minutes. A few minutes later Jamie Sheedy pointed a free to cut the deficit to 2 points. For the remainder of the half Shanballymore played great passing football and at half time we were up 0-6 to 0-4. Kenneth Barry proved difficult to handle at corner forward with 2 points in that first half.

With the 2nd half under way Kenneth Barry was off the mark again with 2 more points. In this opening period of the half Grange found our half back line very difficult to get past with Eoin O’Regan breaking a lot of ball and Colman O’Reilly making a number of fruitful runs forward. We had 5 unanswered points scored before Grange got in for a score again. Eoin McHugh taking over free taking duties from Kenneth Barry with 2 well placed efforts. Haulie Burke who was getting forward more and more as the game wore on also got a great point from play. The game finished 0-15 to 0-7 in our favour. If the lads can keep playing football at this level we should stay very competitive in future rounds of this competition.

Team: S. Donegan, D. Roche, B. Sheedy, P. Fitzgerald, E. O’Regan, M. Burke (0-1), C. O’Reilly, B. Sheedy(0-2), E. McHugh (0-4, 2f), V. Burke, B. O’Reilly, J. Sheedy (0-1, 1f), K. Barry (0-5, 2f), S. Lynch, D. Palmer (0-1) Subs:  R. McHugh, P. Burke (0-1), A. Sheedy, S. Cronin

Our under 10 hurlers made the short journey over to our neighbours Glanworth. With the sun shinning and the grass cut this had the makings of being a very keenly contested game, and that is the way it panned out. Right from the off it was obvious that both teams have being training hard and working on their skills, with some brilliant hooking and blocking on display. In goals Peter was very calm and composed when clearing his lines and finding a black and red jerseys at every opportunity. Daniel, Aine and Dean put in fine performances with some great blocks and clearances. They really stood up to the challenge of a good Glanworth forward line. In midfield, Michael, Lorcan and Nathan had a battle on there hands against a very good midfield pairing from Glanworth. However when the questions were asked they stood up to the challenge. Michael worked tireless up and down the field all day. Lorcan put on an exhibition of hooking and blocking and Nathan was always on hand to pick up the break and wining his own frees which he calmly converted. Up front, Jack, Cian, Rory and Morgan mad the most of every opportunity by testing the keeper on numerous occasions. With a bit more luck they could have added to their already big scoring tally.

The second half was nail biting stuff for team management and supporters alike, with never more then a score between the two teams. Well done to both teams who gave a 100% effort and commitment. Panel of players: Peter O Keeffe,Daniel McGuickin, Rory Dempsey, Aine Burke, Michael Casey Hanely, Dean Fitzharris, Cian Looney, Lorcan Murry, Morgan McGrellis, Jack Twomey.
