Last Friday night Shanballymore Juvenile club held their AGM in front of a large crowd. Chairman Dave Twomey began the meeting by welcoming everybody in attendance. He outlined that this year had been another busy year for all involved in the club with a number of games and club activities taking place throughout the year. A lot of hard work has been put in behind the scenes by several people and he would like to sincerely thank them for this work, as without it the club would not run so smoothly.  We had several teams involved in various games at various venues throughout the year and all players should be proud of the effort they put in. Dave addressed the topic of our amalgamation with Glanworth under the St Dominic’s name for under 12’s, 14’s, 16’s , minors and 21’s. He outlined that it has been a great success so far with a good turnout for training and matches by players from Shanballymore. Our players should feel very proud with great reports from St Dominic’s about their commitment in making this much-needed amalgamation a success.

Dave thanked the national school, John Walsh and his staff for their entire corporation shown all year, the national school is a very important area for any juvenile club that wants to be successful and this is possibly the best place to start training the kids on a regular basis. This year the Juvenile Club paid for a qualified coach to go into the school for a period of 6 weeks to train the kids the basic skills of hurling and football, this was backed up by the fantastic work of our school link officer Kenneth Barry, this additional coaching will pay dividends in the future and is something we are committed in proceeding with again for the coming year.

Dave sent his congratulations to the adult club officers Chairman Richard Burke, Secretary Noreen Burke, Treasurer Mary O’ Regan, Team Managers, selectors and players on their fantastic success in the division 3 hurling league victory.

In Dave’s closing statement, he thanked club sponsor Dave and Mary O’Regan of Country Clean Recycling, Sheedy Quarries, Murray Coaches, Mary & Paddy Iriwn, Geoff Castles Ltd, John Looney Transport, DNR Homes for their continued support during the year and we are very fortunate and grateful for this support. He also had a special mention for his fellow club officers for all the hard work they put in this year. Special thanks to his colleagues at the top table Secretary Tony Mc Guickin and Treasurer Collette Looney, the amount of work they have put in has been fantastic and they were always a pleasure to deal with. Dave also addressed the floor that he would not be running for a third year as chairman as he was now Chairman of the St Dominics club. Dave closed by stating that it had been a pleasure serving as chairman for the last 2 years.

Tony McGuickin secretary’s report gave a detailed report of all sporting events and activities both on and off the playing field for the past year 2018. 6s, 8s & 10s had a very busy year playing numerous non- competitive challenge games and blitzes. There were good numbers at training, with 10-12 kids for each age group on most occasions. This has enabled a vast improvement from all players regarding their skill levels, tactics and teamwork especially during matches and blitzes with all players working hard for each other and the team. Teams attended Monster Blitzes organised by Rebel Og in Ballyhooly, Fermoy, Charleville, Kildorrery, Mallow and other venues in the North Cork region. Showing great potential for the future on each occasion. The under 8’s had the great opportunity of playing their final blitz of the season in the newly opened Pairc Ui Chaoimh and gave a great account of themselves against strong teams from the city. Our under 10’s were also involved in their own mini league during the summer months, this involved them playing longer and more competitive matches with different teams from around the North Cork area with some thrilling matches being played. In October they also had the opportunity of competing in a Munster wide hurling blitz held at Dr. Morris Park in Thurles. This was a great day which all the kids enjoyed winning 2 out of the three matches they competed in against teams from Clare, Limerick and Waterford. I would like to thank Murray Coaches and Sheedy Quarries for their sponsorship of this trip. The under 10’s did us proud again in November beating a strong and determined Doneraile team to capture the Michael Davern Senior Memorial Shield from our near neighbours. We would like to thank the Doneraile Club and the Davern family in particular for their hospitality on the day.
Collette gave a detailed treasures report to those in attendance.
