Last Saturday night Shanballymore Juvenile club held their AGM in front of a large crowd. Chairman Dave Twomey began the meeting by welcoming everybody in attendance. He outlined that this year had been another busy year for all involved in the club with a number of games and club activities taking place throughout the year. A lot of hard work has been put in behind the scenes by several people and he would like to sincerely thank them for this work, as without it the club would not run so smoothly. We had several teams involved in various games at various venues throughout the year and all players should be proud of the effort they put in. Dave addressed the topic of our amalgamation with Glanworth under the St Dominic’s name for under 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and minors. He outlined that it has been a great success so far with a good turnout for training and matches by players from Shanballymore. Our players should feel very proud with great reports from St Dominic’s about their commitment in making this much-needed amalgamation a success.
Dave thanked the national school, John Walsh and his staff for their entire corporation shown all year, the national school is a very important area for any juvenile club that wants to be successful and this is possibly the best place to start training the kids on a regular basis. This year the Juvenile Club paid for a qualified coach to go into the school for a period of 6 weeks to train the kids the basic skills of hurling and football, this was backed up by the fantastic work of our school link officer Kenneth Barry, this additional coaching will pay dividends in the future and is something we are committed in proceeding with again for the coming year.
Dave sent his congratulations to the adult club officers Chairman Richard Burke, Secretary Noreen Burke, Treasurer Mary O’ Regan, Team Managers, selectors and our Munster and All Ireland Winning Junior Team on their fantastic success in 2016.
Dave continued his report about the successful Juvenile skills camp that was held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of August with over 40 kids attending. Each child received a Hurley and football for participating. Shanballymore Juvenile Club would like to thank all those who helped over the three days. Dave especially thanked Colman, Brian, Jerome, Eamonn, Paudie, Eoin Mc Hugh, Eoin O’ Regan, John Buckley, Brian O’ Regan, Brian and Alan Sheedy, Stevie, Kenneth and Kevin Barry for giving up their time to help out it was great that so many of the junior players were willing to help. It was a fantastic success and all the kids enjoyed it. Dave also thanked all managers and trainers of the various teams throughout the year and recognised the time and effort they put into training the kids and helping them improve their skills.
In Dave’s closing statement, he thanked club sponsor Dave and Mary O’Regan of Country Clean Recycling for their continued support during the year and we are very fortunate and grateful for this support. He also had a special mention for his fellow club officers for all the hard work they put in this year. Special thanks to his colleagues at the top table Secretary Tony Mc Guickin and Treasurer Collette Looney, the amount of work they have put in has been fantastic and they were always a pleasure to deal with.
