EXCELLENT DISPLAY IN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Last Saturday night we traveled to Kildorrery for the quarter final of the county junior b hurling championship against Araglinand came away with victory after a great hour of hurling and now we face a semifinal date with another Avondhu side Ballyclough. We played Araglin in the first round on the 24th of may at the same venue and we were beaten by six points 1-13 to 0-10 so we new that there would have to be a big improvement in our performance to come away with victory this time. Araglin were first to score with a pointed free after 3 mins but we hit back straight away when the impressive Brian O’Reilly who had a fine game scored a great goal from a tight angle. From here to the 25 minute both teams exchanged points from frees and play with our scores coming from a lovely long range effort by Padraig Fitzgerald an Eoin O’Regan free and Sean lynch(0-1) and Brian O’Reilly(0-2), Araglin went ahead with a pointed free before we had our second goal when Jamie sheedy set up full forward Jimmy Burke to finish from close range, this put some daylight between us and with half time approaching wing forward Hallie Burke had an excellent point from play to give us a good lead but Araglin hit back with a pointed free to leave it 2-6 to 0-9 at the short whistle. The start of the second half was again a tight affair with both teams guilty of some wides in the first ten minutes but then Jimmy Burke gathered a pass from Jonathan Dennehy and broke through his marker to finish to the net for his second and our third goal, this seemed to lift the whole team and we had some more points from Eoin O’Regan(0-1 free) and Brian O’Reilly(0-2) before Araglin had there first score of the second half with a point from play, we were dominating all over the field and our inside back line of Alan Sheedy, Richard Burke and Eoin McHugh were outstanding all through and behind them keeper Declan Fitzgibbon was in great form and dealt with any high ball that came his way, Our 4th goal killed the game off and this came when a great run by Brian O’Reilly who put the ball across the square for Jamie Sheedy to finish to the net and give us a big lead, Araglin to the credit never gave up and had two points but we had the last score when midfielder Brian Sheedy had a brilliant long range point to give us victory on the night and when referee Justin Murphy who had a fine game blew for full time we were through to the semi final in two weeks with Ballyclough. This was a very important win and the whole panel have put in alot of hard work over the last few months to get to this stage and still be in the hunt for top honours in August.
