NARROW DEFEAT IN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Last Saturday night we played Milford in the 4th round of the junior b football county championshipin Ballyhea and came away disappointed after a three point loss. We started the game in great fashion and had two points on board in the first five minutes from Colman O’Reilly after a great run from wing back and Alan sheedy who scored from close range after good work by his brother Jamie, our backline done well to break down any Milford attacks in the first 10 minutes and only conceded a point from a free in this time, in the 12th minute a good passage of play by Milford saw them get in for there first goal and take a two point lead, we had our 3rd point from a Eoin McHugh free but Milford then added another goal and 2 points to lead by 6 points after 20 minutes, Jamie sheedy and Sean lynch got two in a row to cut the lead to 4 points but Milford again added two points from a free and play to give them a good lead with half time approaching, we had the last score of the half when a high ball in to the square by Alan sheedy was fisted over by Kenneth Barry to leave the score at half time Milford 2-5 Shanballymore 0-6 . We were facing a tough task in the second half and Milford added to there tally immediately with a point from a free, we came more into the game and over the next 15 minutes we had some good points from Jamie Sheedy, Eoin McHugh, Eoin O’Regan and Kenneth Barry but Milford kept the score board ticking over with 3 points of there own to lead by 5 points with 10 minutes remaining 2-9 to 0-10. Alan had a point from a tight angle after good work in the back line by Padraig Fitzgerald and the hard working Hallie Burke but Milford again answered this with a point of there own, With 5 minutes remaining we got our last point when Kenneth scored after Eoin O’Regan set it up to bring to lead down to 4 points. Ben o’Connor who lined out at wing forward for Milford had a point to stretch there lead again with time running out but then we got the goal we needed when Jonathan Dennehy and Eoin McHugh set up kenneth Barry to finish from close range, we were now only 2 points in arrears and needed to get the next score but unfortunately Milford attacked and there impressive free taker put over the last score of the game with a point with time almost up, we had one last chance when Brian O’Reilly hit the side netting from close range and then the referee blew for full time and our county exploits ended for another year.
