Our much anticipated Munster hurling championship quarter final against Austin Stacks from Kerry will take place this Sunday the 29th of November at 2pm in Killeady Co. limerick.
At the start of this year our main aims where to get to Pairc Ui Rinn and have a chance at claiming a county title and to win a north Cork hurling title which has proved very hard over the last number of years
After winning the county in July and the north Cork in September we now get the chance to represent Cork and the Avondhu division in a Munster championship campaign.
Not much is known about our opponents from Kerry but over the last numbers of years hurling in Kerry has been on the up which will mean that we will have to be at our very best to come out on top and progress to the semifinal against Clare champions Broardford on the 13th of December.
Our panel for Sunday have been busy training hard over the last number of weeks and thankfully there has been no sign of anybody easing up as we go all out to create a little bit of history for the famed black and red of Shanballymore.
From everybody in the club we wish captain Brian O’Reilly the players and the selectors the very best of luck in their quest for more success, it would be great to see another large crowd of Shanballymore supporters travel to Killeady on Sunday to roar the team on and having hugh support at games has been a vital part of our success so far this year, for those travelling to the game Killeady is about 45 minutes from Shanballymore and is not far outside Drumcollogher.
The last couple of weeks have seen a dark cloud hang over the village and community of Shanballymore with the sad and untimely passing of one of our best known and loved club man Ownie Whelan. Ownie was at the heart of our GAA club both on and off the field over the years and as far back as his playing days. He was also involved in the juvenile and adult clubs up through the years.
The large crowds that turned out for the removal on the Sunday night and the funeral mass last Monday week were testimony to how popular Ownie was both near and far, his funeral mass was proceeded by a large guard of honour up through the village and also saw his many friends from Shanballymore GAA club and work colleagues from Country Clean Recycling carry his coffin up through the village he loved to the church for his funeral mass.
On behalf of Shanballymore GAA club our club chairman Richard Burke addressed the large crowd of mourners both inside and outside the church and spoke about how much loved Ownie was by all his friends in the GAA club and wider community. Richard spoke about his commitment to Shanballymore GAA down through the years and said that no matter where we were playing games Ownie would be there supporting us and cheering on his beloved black and red.
He was one of our most loyal supporters down through the years and was delighted after our recent county final win in Pairc Ui Rinn back in July, afterwards Ownie was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, he will be deeply missed by all involved in Shanballymore GAA club and the whole community, our deepest condolences are extended to his wife Catherine and daughter Paula and his brother Kevin along with his extended family and friends.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Congratulations to Haulie Burke and his wife Caroline on the birth of twin baby boys last week, no doubt we will be seeing these two lads flying around the GAA field in years to come wearing the black and red of Shanballymore.

Shanballymore 1-14 Ballinhassig 1-7.
Last Sunday we got the chance to add more silverware to our already impressive collection for 2015 when we made the trip to Mallow to play Ballinhassig in the final of the county league. This competition gave us an opportunity to play different teams from around the county.
A special word of thanks must go to the three football selectors Kenneth Barry, Paul Ryan and Dave Twomey for all the hard work they put in this year and also to the club officers for getting behind the players in the pursuit for football glory.
