WELL DONE TO OUR NATIONAL SCHOOL

The last few weeks have been a busy time for our local national school with many different activities taking place. The third and fourth class girls won the north Cork indoor hurling in January and then they travelled to the Na Piarsiagh complex in Cork two weeks ago to take part in the county finals. They were very unlucky in the first game losing to a last minute goal but in the shield final they came out on top 4-2 to claim the title.Well done to all the girls on a fantastic win.

The boys and girls took part in the scor finals held in Ballyhooly lately and came away victories in the Figure dancing and Ballad group. They qualified for the county semifinals which were held in Ovens last Saturday week with the figure dancers just losing out on a final spot the ballad group were celebrating when they qualified for the county final on April the 9th. Well done to all the kids who took part in the scor this year.

LEAGUE ACTION THIS WEEKEND

Division 1 Hurling league.

This Saturday we kick off our 2016 league campaign when we host Fermoy in the Cavanaghs of Fermoy division one hurling league. This will be a very good test for our lads as Fermoy have some very good players but hopefully with a near full squad present we can get off to a positive start in this tough division one league.

Division 3 Hurling league.

Our second string who have put in a long winter of training will take the field next Sunday when they welcome Milford to Shanballymore for round one of the division 3 hurling league with an 11:30 am throw in time. We played Milford in our first game last year and were unlucky to lose after a tight game so hopefully we can come out victories at home on Sunday.

Fixture Against Venue Date Time
Div 1 Hurling League Fermoy Shanballymore Sat 26th March 16:30
Div 3 Hurling League Milford Shanballymore Sun 27th March 11:30

NATIONAL SCHOOL CHAMPIONS

Last Wednesday our local national school competed in Nagle Rice secondary Doneraile for the forth class girls indoor hurling tournament.

After some close games in the group stages it was Shanballymore and Ballyhea who were left to contest the final. The girls played some outstanding hurling in the final and with the game a draw with time almost up they scored a third goal to run out winners 3-2.

This was a fantastic win for the school and showed that all the hard training is beginning to pay off for the kids. The girls now go on to the counties which will be held in the Na Piarsiagh complex in March.

Well done to the team Avalu Hallinan , Kaylaigh Barry, Amy Fagan, Sarah Caldwell, Aine Burke, Ciara Palmer.
