DRAW IN DIV 2 FOOTBALL

Shanballymore 0-11 Ballyclough 2-5

Over the last two weeks we played two games in the div 2 football league with a trip to Ballyclough which ended in a draw after a hard fought game against a very good Ballyclough second string. This was a close game all through and in the end both teams were happy enough to come away with a point.

The concession of two goals one in either half was to prove costly for us but we had some good performances on the night from Sean Lynch and Eoin McHugh in midfield and our back line of Colman O’Reilly, Brendan Hayes, Brian Sheedy, played very well all through.

Team: Stephen Donegan, Brendan Hayes, Brian Sheedy, Darren Roche, Rob McHugh, Brian O’Reilly, Colman O’Reilly, Sean Lynch(0-1), Eoin McHugh, Alan Sheedy(0-4), Eoin O’Regan(0-1), Jerome Fitzgerald, Vincent Burke(0-1), Niall Barry, Kenneth Barry(0-4) Subs: Paul Burke for Niall Barry, Richard Burke for Brendan Hayes, Declan Fitzgibbon for Vincent Burke, Shaun Cronin for Alan Sheedy, Padraig Fitzgerald for Jerome Fitzgerald.

SPIRITED PERFORMANCE IN DIV 3 LEAGUE

We entertained Ballygiblin last Sunday night in our 4th game in the div 3 hurling league and after a very good battle with a lively Ballygiblin side we came up just short in the end losing out by five points. We had some outstanding displays all through the match and time and time again Ballygiblin threatened to pull away but credit to our lads they battled very hard and kept plugging away with some excellent scores.

NARROW DEFEAT IN COUNTY FOOTBALL

We suffered defeat in the county football championship quarter final last Wednesday week to near neighbours Ballyhooly who now go on to contest the semifinal against the winners of Araglin v Whitechurch. This was a game that really could have gone either way in the second half and some costly misses and poor decision making cost us dearly in a very close encounter. Continue reading

DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT TO BALLYHOOLY

Ballyhooly 0-18 Shanballymore 1-11.

Last Friday evening in the splendid Glanworth venue we made our return to junior A grade when we played against old rivals Ballyhooly but unfortunately we left disappointed after a well below par performance. We went into this tie on the back of some good solid wins in the division 1 hurling league and the county league but league and championship are totally different and last Friday night we seemed to be playing the game at league hurling pace while our opponents Ballyhooly seemed to be on a different level.

MAYFIELD PROVE TOO STRONG

Mayfield 2-14 Shanballymore 1-7.
We played our second game in the county hurling league last Saturday night away to Mayfield but unfortunately we failed to get going on the night and were well beaten by a better balanced Mayfield outfit who will no doubt be setting theIR sights on county honours this year.

SHANBALLYMORE 1-9 CLYDA ROVERS 0-9

We traveled to Clyda Rovers last Monday night to take on the hosts in round four of the league and after a hard hour of football we came away with an excellent win against a very well drilled Clyda team who played a very fast passing brand of football. We knew that this would be our toughest test to date as Clyda are an excellent football club with there first team playing senior football and able to mix it with the best in the county at that grade.

THIRD WIN IN DIV 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Shanballymore 1-12 Glanworth 0-6.
We entertained Glanworth last Friday evening in Shanballymore in our third game in the football league and made a blistering start to the game which saw us rack up 1-5 in the first fifteen minutes. This was an ideal start against a youthful Glanworth team who gradually got into the game and played some nice football for the remainder of the game.

SHANBALLYMORE 2-11 LISCARROLL 3-2.

We welcomed Liscarroll to Shanballymore last Thursday night for round two of the football league and after a very shaky start which saw us concede two goals inside the first five minutes we recovered well to gain control of the game. We played into the village end with a strong wind at our backs in the first half but unfortunately Liscarroll cut through the heart of our defence for two well taken goals in the first few minutes.
