EMPHATIC WIN SETS UP SEMI FINAL.

Shanballymore 2-18 Fermoy 2-6.

We had an excellent win over Fermoy last Sunday in the quarter final of this year’s junior A hurling championship. The game was played at a very well prepared Mitchelstown venue and from the off we were reminded that Fermoy were going to be a lively outfit when in the first minute they cut through our defence and scored a very good goal.

GOOD WIN IN DIV1 HURLING LEAGUE SETS UP ANOTHER FINAL

Shanballymore 1-17 Newtown 1-8.
We had an outstanding win last Saturday evening against Newtownshandrum in the semifinal of the Cavanaghs of Fermoy hurling league and now go on to contest our first Div 1 league final in nearly 20 years. This win showed that the team are making great progress in junior A hurling and to quality for the final is a great achievement. Newtown were one of the teams to best us in the league earlier in the year and after coming close on many occasions to beating them we finally got over the line last Saturday.

EXCELLENT WIN IN JAHC

Shanballymore 3-10 Doneraile 0-16.
We had a hard fought 3 point win over Doneraile last Sunday night in round three of the junior A hurling championship in a very well prepared Kildorrey venue. This was a game that was won with pure heart and determination and no shortage of last ditch defending in a very close second half which went down to the wire only to see us hold out for a brilliant win in the end.

DIV 2 FOOTBALL SEMIFINAL

We made our exit from the div 2 football league at the semifinal stage when we lost out to eventful champions Glanworth after a replay. The first game was played in Doneraile last Friday week and this was an outstanding game of football between two evenly matched teams.

We were level at halftime and also at full time so an additional twenty minutes had to be played to decide who would go on and play Mitchelstown in the final but with noting to separate the teams after extra time the game had to go to a replay and this took place in Shanballymore last Monday week.

This was a totally different game to the first one and it was Glanworth who seemed to be much hungrier and they were rewarded with two first half goals which saw them take an eight point lead into the second half. We tried hard to eat into the Glanworth lead but couldn’t get the early goals that would have put them under pressure and credit to Glanworth they played some very good football in the second half and they eventually ran out convincing winners 3-11 to 1-4.

It was a great effort by the lads who have been outstanding all through the league but in the replay injuries would take their toll and we were without the services of Jerome Fitzgerald, Sean Lynch, Darren Roche, Vincent Burke, James Hayes, Jamie Sheedy and Brian O’Reilly.

We would also like to congratulate Glanworth on their fantastic and close win in the final which was held in Shanballymore last Saturday night against a gallant Mitchelstown side. This was a very close game and went down to the wire between these two rivals and in the end only two points separated the teams. Well done again to Glanworth.

DIV 1 HURLING DEFEAT

Ballyhooly 1-13 Shanballymore 0-11.

We travelled to Ballyhooly last Wednesday night for round 6 of the div 1 hurling league but unfortunately we couldn’t get over the line and gain the two points on offer. We were down a lot of regular players due to work, holidays and injuries and over the hour we just seemed to be very flat and couldn’t get into top gear against a very lively Ballyhooly outfit.

This was of course our fifth game in twelve days and it seemed to take effect on most of the lads especially in the second half when they were hoping to push on. Only a point in arrears at half time 0-6 to 0-5 we seemed to be in good shape to mount a challenge and after 15mins of the second half it was all square at 0-9 each but unfortunately Ballyhooly got in for a very soft goal and followed this up with two quick fire points and they held this lead until the final whistle to run out winners 1-13 to 0-11.

EXCELLENT WIN IN JUNIOR “A” HURLING

We had little time to bask in the glory of becoming All Ireland champions because with only a five day turn around we were faced with the task of facing Buttevant in round two of this year’s junior A hurling championship. This game took place last Friday night in Charleville and we were still short the services of a few important players with Haulie, Jonathan Dennehy, Jerome Fitzgerald and Eammon Fitzgerald all out for various reasons.
