This Saturday we are hosting the rebel óg U8 football blitz which will see up to twenty teams take part in small sided 7 aside fun based games with all teams playing three games, the first game kicks off at 10.30am and the second game throws in at 11am with the last game getting under way at 11.30am and all games start and finish at the same time, this promises to be an action packed morning in the GAA field and we appeal to adult club players to help out with organising and parking etc.
U6-U8-U10 FOOTBALL.
Last Wednesday evening Glanworth were the visitors to Shanballymore for a football blitz which included kids from 4yrs to 10yrs of age, three games took place at the same time and the large crowd were treated to some outstanding skill with lots of goals and points scored in all the games, our u5s and U6s had there first taste of action for the year and all the kids really enjoyed themselves with every child getting to kick handpass and score, it was agreed before this game that the four steps rule would not be used and thankfully this was not in force as some of these stars probably had ball in hand for over thirty steps before scoring some top class goals at both sides and all were greeted with loud cheers from the proud parents and family in attendance.
The U8s had a great battle with a large Glanworth squad and this game showed how kids develop the skills of the game in a short space of time, there was some excellent handpassing, blocking, soloing and scores in this game by both teams and these boys and girls can be very proud of their development over the last two years, over in pitch 1 the U10s were putting on a great show for those in attendance with again some excellent skill on show, these boys and girls had only played each other the previous Saturday at a blitz in Ballyhooly and for the second time in a week the game was very close, a big thank you to Glanworth for traveling over in such large numbers and playing all games in a sporting and fun way, also a word of thanks to our young refs who stepped in to officiate on the night, we will be organising a return trip in the coming weeks and look forward to some more excellent football by both clubs.
U12 HURLING & FOOTBALL.
The U12s have played a good few games over the last few weeks and have plenty games coming up against Killavullen and Granard Geals in football and Glanworth in hurling, they played Buttevant in the hurling league two weeks ago and put in a great display against a strong Buttevant outfit and the night after we traveled to Killshannig for a football league game and again played some outstanding football against a large Killshannig squad who had some excellent players, our next game took place last Wednesday the 6th away to Killavullen in the football league and this Sunday we travel to Churchtown to play Granard Geals for a 12 o clock throw in, next Wednesday the 13th we are at home to Glanworth in the hurling league at 7pm.
SCHOOLS HURLING.
Last Thursday week the local school traveled to Killavullen to take party in the 2nd/3rd class hurling blitz and the boys put in a great display on the day showing that the training they did in preparation for the blitz paid off,. Our older boys and girls were in Mallow a few weeks ago for the mini sevens and they also put in some great displays and were unlucky not to come away with some victories with the boys losing there second game against Mallow by a last minute goal. The girls put up a great show on the day and with only one of this team gone for next year they will be going back to Mallow in twelve months with great confidence of getting some wins. Well done to all the boys and girls who represented the school and done themselves proud, next up is the sciath ná scoil hurling and the group stages of this take place next Monday in Doneraile when we play three game against Churchtown, Dromina and Araglin with two teams qualifying for the final which takes place in Mallow in early June, hopefully all the training the boys and girls have put in over the last four months will pay off and we can qualify for the finals in mallow.
