GAA PRESIDENT’S VISIT TO SHANBALLYMORE A HUGE SUCCESS

Last Monday night we had the great honour of welcoming president of the GAA Liam O’Neill to Shanballymore for a night of fun and celebrations which was enjoyed by the massive turnout of people who packed the local community hall to see some brilliant displays of music, acting and singing.

On the night we also had the pleasure of welcoming new Cork GAA county board Chairman Ger Lane and new Vice Chairwomen Treacy Kennedy, also present were Cultural Officer Ciaran McCann Barry Ahern and Paddy Ryan. Presentations where made on the night to various people with the Irish certificates given to those who took part in that over the last 8 weeks and the local school kids were presented with the winning medels they won in the sciath na scoil final. Our own Dave Sheedy had the pleasure of receiving the club hall of fame award which he richly deserves for his many years of service and dedication to Shanballymore GAA. The local school kids preformed many different songs on the night and they also entertained the large crowd with Irish dancing and a history of GAA in Shanballymore from the founding of the club in 1884 to this year 2014. On the night we also launched Shanballymore GAA web site and Chairman Richard Burke gave a very detailed view of the work that has gone into kick-starting the web site so the people of Shanballymore GAA near and far can keep updated with topics on and off the field. We also launched major community development plans for the GAA field and surrounding area and the community center and everybody present was very impressed with the future vision shown for Shanballymore. In the next edition of the Avondhu there will be a detailed account of this historic night for Shanballymore so please look out for that. Lastly Shanballymore GAA would like to wish all our loyal followers near and far a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year and hopefully 2015 will bring success on the field for everybody to celebrate.
